ST. LOUIS - Issa Sullivan was named to the 2022 MVC Women's Tennis Scholar-Athlete Honorable Mention team.Â
Sullivan is a sophomore majoring in movement and exercise science. She holds a 3.81 GPA and has competed at the No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 spots for the UNI women's tennis team this year. She is from Shawnee, Kansas.Â
Sixteen student-athletes have been named to the 2022 MVC Scholar-Athlete Teams; seven of those student-athletes were named to the First Team. This year's first team includes four players who have received previous MVC women's tennis scholar athlete first-team recognition.
Thirty student-athletes were nominated for the Valley's scholar-athlete team. The criterion for the honor parallels the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) standards for Academic All-America voting. Nominees must have participated in at least 75% of the regular-season matches or be projected to play in the MVC Championship, with at least a 3.30 cumulative GPA (on a 4.00 scale).Â
Student-athletes must have reached sophomore status in both athletic and academic standing at their institution (true freshmen, redshirt freshmen and first-year transfers were not eligible).
The scholar-athlete teams are decided by a vote of the league's women's tennis sports information directors, with approval from head coaches.
The tournament is scheduled from April 22-24 with UNI in the quarterfinal match at 3 p.m. Friday, April 22.
Drake University is hosting the event at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center. Admission is free. Fans are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, and parking is available next to the outdoor courts.
