UNI tennis closes out conference play with 6-1 win over Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - UNI women's tennis won its first conference dual, giving the Panthers momentum heading into the conference championships with a 6-1 win over Missouri State.Â
The Panthers improve to 5-12 overall and 1-4 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Missouri State is now 0-17 and 0-4 in MVC competition.Â
UNI sealed the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 2 and a forfeit at No. 3. Three Panthers had comeback wins in their singles matches to defeat the Bears.Â
Darta Dalecka is now 7-6 in singles play at the No. 1 spot with a win over Mary Houston of Missouri State. She is 2-3 in the MVC.
UNI's Lorena Cardoso got her second conference win, defeating Juliette Robinson at the No. 2 spot after dropping the first set to Robinson. She is 5-12 overall and 2-3 in the MVc.Â
Emma Carr (4-8 / 1-4) also battled back after losing the first set to get her first singles to win the league.Â
Andrijana Brkic, now 5-11 / 2-2, was the third Panther who dropped the first set but battled back for a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 win.Â
The Bears won their only point at No. 5 singles, where UNI's Thaissa Moreira took Sandra Lukacova into a tiebreaker.Â
UP NEXT
UNI faces one final dual before the MVC Championships set for April 22-25. The Panthers stay on the road in Springfield, Missouri, to face Drury University at 2 p.m. Saturday.Â
