INDIANAPOLIS – UNI football's Trevor Penning continued to impress at today's NFL Combine session for offensive linemen.
Penning and wide receiver Isaiah Weston were among the 324 participants and 21 former FCS players invited to the NFL Combine.
At 6-foot, 7 inches and weighing 325 pounds, Penning has been receiving a lot of attention leading up to the NFL Draft. Penning ran a 4.89-second 40-yard dash, which was the fourth best time in the field of linemen. He had a leap of 9 feet, 3 inches in the broad jump and 28 inches in the vertical leap.
The Panther was the only offensive lineman named as a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, which is presented to the national offensive player of the year in college football's Division I subdivision. He was the first player to be invited to the Reese's Senior Bowl.
Penning was named to eight all-America teams, including the Phil Steele FCS All-America First Team Offense, Stats Perform FCS All-America Team and the Associated Press All-America Football Team.
Penning is from Clear Lake, Iowa, and majoring in movement and exercise science. He is the son of Jeff and Teresa Penning. His brother, Jared, also plays on the UNI football team.
