UNI sits in second place following day two of the MVC Championships

IOWA CITY, Iowa -Â The UNI Swim and Dive team prevailed on the second day of the Missouri Valley Conference Championships with Abbie Bangs, Faith Larsen, Amber Finke, Abby Hutchins, and Taylor Hogan all placing in the A-Finals of their respective events.Â
Hogan led the Panthers and secured a third-place finish on the 1-meter boards after she recorded 261.65 points. Hogan was seeded fourth and improved her preliminary score by 10.85 points to take the All-MVC honors. Hutchins wasn't far behind Hogan who placed fifth overall with 255.25 points.Â
Bangs recorded a new personal best swim in the 500 freestyle and moved up on the UNI all-time top-10 list with a swim of 4:59.68. Bangs represented the Panthers in the A-Finals and finished fifth amongst all other competitors. Olivia Chambers, Sarah Walpole, and Rachelle Houlette finished in 19th, 20th, and 21st place with Hallory Domnick rounding out the Panther squad in 24th place of the 500 Freestyle finals.Â
Four Panthers raced in the 200 IM finals including Finke who secured a seventh-place finish, Ema Lavigne (ninth place), Lily Ernst (12th place), and Payton Hall (22nd place). All four girls now hold a position on the all-time top-10 Panther list in the 200 IM after today's races.Â
Faith Larsen, Clare Christensen, and Lauren Havertape finished the preliminary races on top and obtained a spot in the 50 freestyle finals. Larsen finished fourth among all MVC opponents with a new personal record of 23.14. Christensen also recorded a new season-best (23.95, 15th place) and Havertape followed in 17th place with a tied time with Southern Illinois University's Abbey Desmet of 23.96.Â
To complete the races for the day, the UNI-A 200 free relay team comprising Finke, Christensen, Havertape, and Larsen, landed a third-place finish after racing in 1:33.38. The UNI-B 200 Free relay team (Waren Graeve, Liz Purtle, Lavigne, and Short) also broke the top ten and placed eighth with a time of 1:35.30.
The Panthers had a total of 15 girls beat their own personal best times and four of those girls moved up on the all-time top-10 Panther list.Â
All teams will gather back at the CRWC pool for the third day of competition on Friday with preliminary races at 11 a.m. and finals again at 6 p.m.Â
