UNI track and field set to compete under the Friday Knight Lights

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The newly ranked UNI track and field teams head to Waverly for a Friday afternoon competition.Â
The UNI men's track and field team earned a spot at No. 4 on the USTFCCCA Regional Midwest regional rankings.Â
The Panthers also gained Missouri Valley Conference honors as Carter Morton earned Male Field Athlete of the Week for his first-place finish in the men's heptathlon.Â
Friday's Friday Knight Lights Invitational hosted by Wartburg College is set to begin at 3:30 p.m. with the field events of weight throw and triple jump. Teams expected to compete are Central College, Grand View University, Loras College and Wartburg College. Â
Panthers to keep an eye on this weekend include junior Matteo Cappello, a transfer from Vincennes University. This is the first year the pole vaulter has competed for the Panthers, and he has continuously dominated the competition. His season's best jump of 5.15 meters placed him not only first at the Jimmy Grant Invitational but aided to his first place finish at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational with a jump of 5.05 meters. Cappello remains in the top 30 in the nation and first in the Missouri Valley.Â
Senior Isaiah Trousil has been one to watch in the 60-meter-dash with his standing best time of 6.72 seconds set at the Hawkeye Invitational earlier this season. Darius King is also set to compete this weekend, the senior posted his season's best score in the shot put of 19.64 meters from the Hawkeye Invitational. King has continued to hold his top-10 standing in the nation for the shot put for the last five weeks.Â
The women bring momentum after posting a collective 18 personal bests last week. Rylie Todd currently sits third in the Missouri Valley in the high jump with her season's best jump of 1.70 meters, winning the Jack Jennett Invitational. Freshman Sophia Jungling set her season's best time at the Larry Wieczorek Invitational in the 800-meter-run with a time of 2:14.11. Jungling is currently fourth in the Missouri Valley in the 800-meter run. Senior Morgan Nealey is set to throw the shot put, after winning the Jack Jennett Invitational with a personal best throw of 15.25 meters. Nealey is currently fifth in the Missouri Valley with this mark.Â
