CEDAR FALLS, Iowa- The Panthers head to Iowa City to compete in the Hawkeye Invitational hosted by the University of Iowa on Jan. 14-15.Â
Men's and women's weight throw will compete 5 p.m. Friday with remaining events commencing 10 a.m. Saturday. Teams the Panthers will face include the University of Iowa, South Dakota, Western Illinois, and Arkansas State. Conference team appearances this week include Loyola and Bradley. Â
Men to watch this weekend include graduate student Darius King, ranking third in the nation and first in the Missouri Valley in shot put. King recorded a throw of 19.24 meters at the Jimmy Grant Invitational in December. King also recorded a throw of 18.80 meters at the Jimmy Grant Invitational in the weight throw ranking him in the top 35 in the nation and fifth in the Missouri Valley.Â
Pole vaulter Matteo Capello is set to jump. He is leading the Missouri Valley with a jump of 5.15 meters. Capello is tied among five pole vaulters for 12th in the nation with this mark.Â
For the women, Sophia Jungling leads the Missouri Valley in the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes. 17.35 seconds set at the Iowa State Holiday Invitational. Freshman Paige Kisley is set to run in the 60-meter hurdles. Her personal best is 8.99, ranking her third in the Missouri Valley. Junior Mari Shavers is set to throw the weight, her best toss of 16.95 meters was set at the Jimmy Grant Invitational and puts her to third in the Missouri Valley. Â
