Panthers Fall to Coyotes on Senior Day

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Despite a strong performance around the net, the Panthers were unable to find the back of the goal on Senior Day.Â
UNI women's soccer fell 0-1 to South Dakota on Sunday afternoon at the UNI Soccer Field in Cedar Falls. Despite leading the game in shots and having 5 shots on goal, the Panthers weren't able to get past Coyotes goalkeeper Emma Harkleroad. The Coyotes scored the lone goal of the game in the 66th minute of the second half with a shot from midfielder Alexis Mitchell, assisted by midfielder Taylor Cotter.
Forward Lauren Heinsch was again an offensive standout for UNI, having 3 shots on goal in 4 attempts on Sunday. Midfielder Maddie Eastus also had a multiple shot game for the Panthers, getting 1 shot on goal in 3 attempts through 45 minutes. In goal, senior goalkeeper Chloe Russo faced 4 shots, making 3 saves and allowing one goal in 90 minutes.Â
For Senior Day, the Panthers started all 7 of their graduating players, defender Anna Forsyth, defender Sandra Thiman, forward/defender Sophia Doty, midfielder/defender Megan Benmore, forward/midfielder Izzy Minshall, forward Johnnie Hill, and goalkeeper Chloe Russo. The 7 seniors combined for 514 minutes played, 2 shots, and 4 fouls.Â
