9/29/2021 11:00:00 AM | Women's Volleyball
This Weekend's Action:
UNI vs Drake | Oct. 1 | 7 pm (WHITE OUT)
Â
The Panthers:
- An all-Iowa matchup is on tap as UNI faces Drake for the first time this season. The contest also serves as the finale of a three-match Panther homestand. This is the first time since 2001 that UNI will play its first three Missouri Valley Conference matches at home.
Â
- The Bulldogs are the only team that the Panthers have played at least once in every season. The first official year of UNI volleyball was 1975.
Â
- UNI leads the all-time series with 85 wins compared to 14 losses and two ties. During this past season, Drake swept the regular season series, but UNI earned a 3-0 victory in the MVC Quarterfinals.
Â
- The Panthers went 1-1 last week to open MVC play. UNI swept Bradley, 3-0, Friday before it rallied to force a fifth set within a 3-2 loss Saturday against Illinois State.
Â
- UNI posted arguably the best defensive effort by any Valley team in the start of league action. The Panthers are first in conference-only opposing hitting (.177), kills per set allowed (11.25), and opposing attack errors (54).
Â
- The Panthers are 3-0 when taking 2-0 set leads with sweeps in each such outing including Friday's win over the Braves. That tilt was also UNI's first victory without any aces since November 20, 2015 when the Panthers had a previous 3-0 home triumph versus Bradley.
Â
- Tayler Alden came close to a triple-double twice this past weekend. She notched a double-double Friday with a career-high-tying 10 kills on .455 hitting with no errors to go with 16 assists and eight digs. Alden totaled 20 assists, nine digs, and eight kills Saturday.
Â
- Emily Holterhaus tallied double-doubles in each match last week. She registered 13 kills and 11 digs Friday versus Bradley before adding a season-high 17 kills along with 11 digs Saturday against Illinois State.
- Kira Fallert earned her first collegiate double-double with 10 kills and 11 digs Friday versus Bradley. She also led all Panther passers for the weekend with a .980 reception percentage featuring no errors in Friday's win (27 targets).
Â
- Inga Rotto (106), Kaylissa Arndorfer (72), and Emily Holterhaus (72) are on consecutive match playing streaks to begin their college careers. Also of note, Carly Spies is on a 37-match blocking streak.
Â
- UNI returns 13 women that were with the program for the spring season including 2020-21 All-MVC honorees Emily Holterhaus (First Team), Inga Rotto (Second Team), and Tayler Alden (Freshman Team).
- Despite the challenges of the delayed 2020 campaign, the Panthers still qualified for the MVC Championship and made it to the league semifinals. UNI has earned tournament bids and semifinal berths for a league-record 36 seasons in a row.
