THE PANTHERS
•With 3 interceptions on the year, Benny Sapp III leads the nation with 1.0 interceptions per game. Sapp finished with 1 interceptions against Sacramento State and 2 against St. Thomas.

•The Panther defense have made turnovers a priority this season, recovering 5 fumbles, ranking 8th in the nation, and recoding 6 interceptions, 10th best in the nation.

• In his last outing Mathew Cook went 3 for 3 in field goal kicking, making field goals of 42, 46, and 32 helping the Panthers to a 44-3 victory over St. Thomas.

• The Panther offense exploded in the third quarter against Sacramento State, scoring 27 unanswered points behind Theo Day at QB. Entering the game at halftime Day finished with 120 yards passing for 6-11 with 2 touchdowns.

• The UNI defense forced 6 turnovers at Sacramento State. The last time UNI forced 6 turnovers was Sept 8, 2012 when the #7 Panthers beat DII Central State 56-0.

• MLB Spencer Cuvelier recorded 1 forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries while leading the team with 15 tackles against Sacramento State to earn MVFC Defensive Player of the Week honors as well as Stats Perform National Defensive Player of the Week.

• The Panthers return all 22 offensive and defensive starters from last season.

• 11 Panthers were honored with MVFC Preseason honors, Jared Brinkman (First Team), Trevor Penning (First Team), Spencer Cuvelier (First Team), Mathew Cook (First Team), Omar Brown (Second Team), Austin Evans (Second Team), Deion McShane (Second Team), Will McElvain (HM), Isaiah Weston (HM), Benny Sapp III (HM), Tyler Hoosman (HM)

• 8 Panthers were honored with All-MVFC recognition in the Spring of 2021. First Team All-MVFC selection and the returning MVFC Defensive Player of the Year Jared Brinkman leads a stout defensive unit along with Spencer Cuvelier (First Team), Brawntae Wells (Second Team), Austin Evans (Second Team), and Omar Brown (Honorable Mention).

THE PENGUINS
• YSU had seven Penguins earn All-Missouri Valley Football Conference honors in the spring. Linebacker Grant Dixon was a first-team honoree, tailback Jaleel McLaughlin, offensive tackle Dan Becker and safety Zaire Jones were second-team picks while defensive end James Jackson, cornerback Keyon Martin and punt returner Jake Coates were honorable-mention picks. All but Coates returned to the program in the fall.

• Redshirt freshman QB Demeatric Crenshaw had been impressive for the Penguins in his two career starts. In the season-opener vs. UIW, Crenshaw engineered a late fourth-quarter drive to help the Guins tie the contest as time expired vs. UIW. It was the first time since Oct. 1, 2018, vs. Southern Illinois that the Penguins rallied in the fourth quarter to earn a victory.

• Crenshaw completed 9-of-12 passes for 112 yards and a touchdown against UIW. He rushed for 81 yards on 20 carries and scored two TDs.

• At Michigan State, Crenshaw rushed for 69 yards on 18 carries and scored a touchdown. He completed 10-of-23 passes for 81 yards.

• Leading the defense is first-year starter Jordan White who has been credited with 16 tackles in the first two games. Defensive back D'Marco Augustin ranks second on the team with 15 tackles. Both players had career-best efforts at Michigan State.
