Panthers Finish 8th at the Redbird Invite

Normal, Illinois- The Panthers competed in the Redbird Invite hosted by Illinois State, on September 17th. After coming off a bye week from their last race at the Hawkeye Invite, both men and women teams finished 8th overall. The women averaged their time in the 6k at 23:10.7 with their point total at 209. In the 8k, the men averaged a time of 25:72.2, with a point total of 218.Â
ÂTop finishers for the women include freshman Kiki Connell, with a 19th place finish and a time of 21:46.9 in the 6k. Connell is 1 of 7 MVC runners to finish in the top 20. Kate Crawford finished strong in the race with a time of 22:33.9 and a finish in 42nd. Senior Mia Rampton set a new best in the 6k, cracking the top 50 with a time of 22:37.5, demolishing her previous time by a whole minute. Jill Vonnahme also sets a new best in the 6k with a time of 23:42.8 improving on her previous time by over a minute and a half.Â
ÂSam McCool continues to lead the men with his 20th place finish in the 8k. McCool also set a new best with a time of 25:13.2, improving his time by 45 seconds. Freshman Caleb Schumaker makes his name known, placing in the top 25, recording his first collegiate 8k, with a time of 25:25.0. Freshman Payton Marrs also made his way into the top 50 with a time of 25:48.8.Â
ÂThe Panthers next race will be the Roy Griak Invitational, hosted by the University of Minnesota next week on September 24th.Â
