- Intrastate rivals clash as the Panthers host the Iowa State Cyclones in the McLeod Center for UNI's home opener.

- This will be the eighth time that UNI and Iowa State will square off in the McLeod Center. The average attendance across the seven previous meetings is 6,004 fans.

- Jenna Brandt was with the Cyclones for the 2018 and 2019 matchups but did not participate in either contest. This is her first chance to play against her former school.

- Inga Rotto (100), Kaylissa Arndorfer (66), and Emily Holterhaus (66) are on consecutive match playing streaks to begin their UNI careers. Also, Tayler Alden is 17 assists shy of 1,000 career assists going into this week.

- During this past week, the Panthers went 2-1 at the Cougar Challenge and finished in second place behind tournament host Washington State (3-0).

- UNI started the tournament with a dominant sweep of Gonzaga last Thursday. The Panthers hit .444 as a team which represented the best mark for a single match since hitting .471 against George Washington (August 25, 2012).

- The Panthers also tallied 10 aces in their 3-0 win over the Zags. UNI has reached double digits 14 times within the 25-point rally-scoring era (2008 to present) with seven of those instances coming in the 2021 calendar year.

- Tayler Alden and Kaylissa Arndorfer made the Cougar Challenge All-Tournament Team. Alden led UNI with 48 assists and posted 17 of those assists along with eight kills and six digs in the victory against Long Beach State. Arndorfer hit .341 (20-5-44) and recorded her 500th career kill within the tournament.
- The Panthers are back to a regular nonconference slate in terms of size and strength. The Panthers will have 13 matches before Missouri Valley Conference play, and six opponents were ranked or receiving votes in the AVCA Preseason Poll (No. 3 Kentucky, No. 18 Washington State, RV USC, RV Creighton, RV Marquette, RV Wright State).

- UNI returns 13 women that were with the program for the spring season including 2020-21 All-MVC honorees Emily Holterhaus (First Team), Inga Rotto (Second Team), and Tayler Alden (All-Freshman Team).
- Despite the challenges of the delayed 2020 campaign, the Panthers still qualified for the MVC Championship and made it to league semifinals. UNI has earned tournament bids and semifinal berths for a league-record 36 seasons in a row.
