Panthers Tally Three All-Conference Finishes During First Day of MVC Championships

CARBONDALE, Ill. – UNI track and field closed out the first day of competition at the Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Championships in Carbondale, Ill. on Friday with three All-Conference performances and five top-five finishes. The men are currently second in the team standings with 34 points and the women are seventh with nine points.
Graduate student Kyler Yodts led the Panthers in the men's hammer throw, notching a personal best of 65.16m to place second and earn all-conference honors. Sophomore Cameron Jones landed fourth with a toss of 65.16m and graduate student Darius King took sixth with a mark of 57.77m. King led the Purple and Gold in the men's javelin, posting an all-conference finish with a personal best of 56.53m to place third. In the women's pole vault, junior Cierra Laux garnered all-conference honors with a third-place mark of 3.70m.
On the track, seven Panthers advanced to Sunday's finals. Juniors Paige Holub and Andrew Kephart earned spots in Sunday's women's and men's 1500-meter finals with Holub clocking a time of 4:37.34 to place fifth in the women's qualifier and Kephart stopping the clock at 3:53.56 to place 12th in the men's. Senior Isaiah Trousil, freshman Parker Kiewiet, and senior Tayshaun Cooper placed second (21.51), third (21.57), and fifth (21.53), respectively in the men's 200-meter qualifier, advancing to Sunday's finals. Graduate student Taylor Raines and freshman Libby Wedewer advanced to Sunday's women's 200-meter final after finishing fourth (24.18) and seventh (24.44), respectively in the qualifier.
The Panthers hold the top four spots in the men's decathlon after five events. Freshman Carter Morton leads the pack with 3751 points, sophomore Zack Butcher is in second with 3666 points, freshman Matt Davis is third with 3647 points, and sophomore Thai Thompson is fourth with 3628 points. After four events in the women's heptathlon, freshman Lydia Berns-Schweingruber is sixth in the standings with 2463 points and senior Erica Loussaert is ninth with 2300 points. The decathlon will resume Saturday at 10 a.m. with the 110-meter hurdles and the heptathlon will pick up with the long jump at 10:30 a.m.
