Panther Softball Defeat Bears in MVC Semifinal

EVANSVILLE, Indiana – The UNI softball team took on the Missouri State Bears in MVC semifinal action on Friday afternoon, defeating the Bears 3-2 with the final run scored in the bottom of the 7th inning.
MVC Semifinal | UNI 3, MSU 2
The Bears got on the board first, scoring two runs in the first inning. The Panthers opened the bottom of the innings with a single from Sammey Bunch and a hard hit double by Adara Opiola. Emmy Wells pushed Bunch across the plate for the first UNI run of the game.
The pitchers dialed it in for two scoreless innings but the Panthers were able to tie the game when Sammy Moss hit an RBI double bringing Taylor Hogan across the plate. With the game tied 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh it was Sammey Bunch that provided the spark, blasting a shot to the centerfield fence. Bunch reached 3rd on an error and would be send home for the win by Hannah Kelley for the dramatic some from behind win.
The MVC Pitcher and Newcomer of the Year Kailyn Packard received the start in the circle for the Panthers. The redshirt sophomore pitched all 7 innings, throwing 100 pitches and striking out 9 batters. Packard gave up 2 runs on 4 hits.
