Panthers Set to Clash with Illinois State and Bradley

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI women's tennis team hits the road for a pair of matches against Illinois State and Bradley this weekend. The Purple and Gold are slated to face Illinois State on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Normal, Ill. before heading to Peoria, Ill. to take on Bradley at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
Last time out, the Panthers fell, 5-2, to Valparaiso at the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo, Iowa. In doubles action, sophomore Thaissa Moreira/senior Valentina Caro defeated Amanda Tabanera/Isabelle Schoolcraft, 6-4, on the No. 2 court. Senior Madeline Doherty/freshman Issa Sullivan defeated Mia Bertino/Allison McConnell, 7-5, on the No. 3 court to clinch the doubles point. In singles action Moreira fought through a three-set battle with Tabanera, dropping the first set 3-6, before bouncing back to take the second, 6-3, and third, 10-8.
Last Time Against Illinois State
UNI last met Illinois State on April 20, 2019 in Bloomington, Ill., falling to the Redbirds 6-1. Claudia Toledo earned the Panthers' sole point in singles play with a 7-6, 6-4 over Tara Damnjanovic on the No. 2 court.
Scouting Illinois State
Illinois State is 14-7 (2-0 MVC). The Redbirds' longest win streak this season has been seven matches, running from Feb. 10 to Feb. 28, where they tallied wins over SIUE, Eastern Illinois, Dayton, DePauw, Western Illinois, UIC, and Chicago State.
