UNI Softball Wins Against Valparaiso

Cedar Falls, Iowa – UNI softball won the first game of the weekend on Saturday, April 10th taking down Valparaiso 9-0. UNI now has an overall record of 16-13 and 7-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Panthers recorded nine runs, on eight hits, with one error.
UNI 9, Evansville 1
The Panthers started off the game strong pushing six runs across in the bottom of the first inning. UNI would go on again to score one run in the second inning and two in the fourth inning. The first game of the weekend series against Valparaiso ended after the fifth inning due to UNI up 9-0.
In the circle, Sophomore ace Kailyn Packard (11-5) picked up the win going four innings giving up only three hits, no runs, walked two and struck out three. Samantha Heyer came in to relieve Packard in the top of the 5th facing three batters striking out one and walking none.
On the offensive side the Panthers found a spark from Senior Sammey Bunch who went 2-for-3 with one run, two RBI's, and walked once. Madison Parks and Sammy Moss also stepped up for UNI. Parks went 2-for-2 with one RBI and was walked once. Moss went 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, three RBI's, and also drew one walk. As a team UNI drew a total of eight walks.

The Panthers are back in action Sunday, April 11th when UNI will play a double header against Valparaiso to finish off the weekend series. The first pitches are set for 11:00 am and 1:30 pm CT. Both games can be watched on ESPN3.
