UNI Rolls Past Valpo

WATERLOO, Iowa – The UNI soccer team claims the 1-0 Senior Day win against Valparaiso on Sunday afternoon. Izzy Lafollete scored her first career goal as a Panther to help UNI secure the win.
The Panthers honored seniors Olivia Stearns, Shelby Unruh and Paige Sieren for the Senior Day match and all three seniors made a starting appearance.
UNI and Valpo battled for the first 45 minutes of the match but both teams entered halftime with a tied score, 0-0.
Lizzie Mewes took a penalty kick after Valpo committed a handball violation in the goal box early in the second half but Valparaiso's goalie stretched out just enough to knock the ball out of play.
LaFollete scored her first career goal as a Panther at the 54 minute mark, starting the second half off with a 1-0 Panther lead.
The Panthers applied continuous Pressure to Valpo in the second half with 10 shots and six shots on goal. Valpo struggled to find the back of the net and would only record two shots and one shot on goal by Tahelah Noel at 84:30 minutes in the match.
UNI stands 3-3-2 on the season.

The Panthers will now shift their focus to the Sycamores of Indiana State, taking on the MVC foe on Saturday, April 3. The game will begin at 12 pm in Terre Haute, Indiana.
