CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - UNI softball team finished the final day of the Doc Halverson UNI-Dome Classic by knocking off the Mavericks of Nebraska-Omaha 8-2.

The Panthers lead the entire game starting off to a fast start from the first inning. UNI scored four runs in the first inning and didn't look back. The Mavericks would try to cut into the deficit in the 3rd and 4th inning scoring one a piece making the score 4-2. In the bottom half the Panthers scored three runs from a three run homerun from Sammey Bunch that extended the lead to 7-2. UNI would eventually score again in the 5th making it 8-2 for the final score.

Hannah Kelley (2-0) picked up the win for UNI (2-2). The sophomore went 2.1 innings, giving up one run, one earned, on four hits, and only walking one one. Samantha Heyer finished the game off going 4.1 innings, giving up one run, one earned, on five hits, walking none, and striking out two.

At the plate, the Panthers were led by senior Sammey Bunch who went 3-4 on the day with two home runs, five RBIs, and scored two runs. Freshman Emmy Wells went 2-4 as well while picking up two hits, one being a double.

GAME NOTES

- UNI's highest scoring inning was the 1st inning, when it pushed five runs across.

- The Panthers drew six walks from DePaul pitching.

- Bunch led the Panthers at the plate, going 3-4 with a 2 home runs and 5 RBIs.

The Panthers will take a break in the action before traveling to Nashville, Tennessee to play a doubleheader against Lipscomb University on Feb. 24-25.
