
Four Panthers secure wrestling titles at Grand View Open

PLEASANT HILL, Iowa – Seven of eight UNI wrestlers who competed at the Grand View Open found a place on the podium this weekend in the freshman / sophomore division.
UNI wrestling crowned four champions with Connor Thorpe at 141 pounds, RJ Weston at 157 pounds, Jared Simma at 174 pounds, and John Gunderson at 197 pounds. All are freshmen expected to redshirt this season.
Cael Rahnavardi (149 pounds) and Adam Ahrendsen (197 pounds) took third. Kalob Runyon (197 pounds) finished in sixth place.
UNI notched 17 pins and had 27 bonus point wins overall. UNI recorded the best winning percentage of any team at the tournament, going 47-7 overall with a winning percentage of 87%.
John Gunderson led the Panthers in falls, with four in just 8 minutes, 53 seconds.
UNI will be back on the road next weekend to South Dakota State for the Daktronics Open in Brookings, South Dakota.
