This Weekend's Action:
UNI at Indiana State | Nov. 12 | 5 pm (News/Talk 1540 KXEL | ESPN+)
UNI at Evansville | Nov. 13 | 5 pm (UNIPanthers.com | ESPN3)
Â
The Panthers:
- UNI heads to Indiana for matches against Indiana State and Evansville in its last road trip of the regular season. Earlier this season, the Panthers won a five-setter against the Sycamores and dropped a four-set decision to the Purple Aces.
Â
- With two weeks remaining prior to the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Volleyball Championship, the Panthers can finish anywhere from fourth place through ninth place. Only the top six teams qualify for the tournament.
Â
- UNI is coming off a homestand sweep with a 3-1 victory Friday against Southern Illinois and a 3-0 win Saturday versus Missouri State. The Panthers posted 16 total aces compared to seven reception errors across those triumphs with an 8-to-0 advantage in Saturday's sweep.
Â
- Tayler Alden became the first Panther with back-to-back triple-doubles since Bre Payton (September 3-4, 2010) with her outings last week versus Valparaiso (26 assists, 16 digs, 12 kills) and Southern Illinois (24 assists, 16 kills, 14 digs). Alden tops non-seniors nationally with three total triple-doubles this season.
Â
- Payton Ahrenstorff and Kira Fallert topped UNI last week with five service aces apiece. Ahrenstorff is up to 16 aces this season while Fallert has 27 service winners and trails only Tayler Alden (29) for the team lead.
Â
- Several Panthers reached significant milestones during the recent homestand. Friday's match included Jenna Brandt's 1,000th career assist while Saturday's contest featured the 300th block for Inga Rotto and the 200th block for Carly Spies.
Â
- Carly Spies owns a personal-best 102 blocks this season and is the first Panther to tally at least 100 rejections in a season since Piper Thomas had 119 blocks during 2017.
Â
- Inga Rotto (118), Kaylissa Arndorfer (84), and Emily Holterhaus (84) are on consecutive contest playing streaks to begin their college careers. Rotto is also on a 43-match blocking streak dating back to last February.
- UNI returns 13 women that were with the program for the spring season including 2020-21 All-MVC honorees Emily Holterhaus (First Team), Inga Rotto (Second Team), and Tayler Alden (All-Freshman Team).
- Despite the challenges of the delayed 2020 campaign, the Panthers still qualified for the MVC Championship and made it to the league semifinals. UNI has earned tournament bids and semifinal berths for a league-record 36 seasons in a row.
