Panther women's basketball signs two

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The UNI women's basketball team has signed two players to National Letters of Intent for the early signing period this Wednesday. This year's signing class includes All-State and All-Conference members.
"We are extremely thrilled with the addition of Ryley and Taryn to our Panther family! They are two extremely talented and hard working athletes, who share a great love for the game. Taryn is a true point guard with has great skill set on both sides of the ball. Her high basketball IQ will be an important addition to our team. Ryley is long and athletic, which gives her great versatility along with the ability to play multiple positions. We can't wait to have everyone welcome them to the Panther family!"
Ryley Goebel | 5-11 | SF | Center Point- Urbana HS | Center Point, Iowa
Goebel was a member of the 2018-2019 Iowa 3A Championship team at Center Point- Urbana. Goebel was part of the 2019 All-District and All-Conference first teams for her contributions to the championship run in 2019. Goebel led the Stormin' Pointers with 18.2 points per game in the 2020-2021 season. She also led her team in rebounds per game that season with 8.6. Goebel was named the 2021 WaMaC West MVP and was a member of the 2021 All-State, All-District, and All-Conference first teams. Goebel is the daughter of Megan and Scott Goebel and has two younger siblings, Grant and Emily.
Taryn Wharton | 5-5 | PG | Bellevue West Point HS | Bellevue, NE
Wharton was a member is a member of Bellevue West Point High School's varsity team and has been a starter all 4 years of high school. Wharton led her team in three categories for 2 years in a row, points (18.4 and 14.8), steals (3.1 and 2.3), and assists (3.7 and 2.1). Wharton was named to the Class A All-State, the All-Metro first team, and the Super State second team in 2021. Wharton also excels in the classroom where she has a 4.3 GPA and was been named to the Academic All-State team on 3 separate occasions. Wharton is the daughter of Troy and Tamara Wharton and has a little sister, Taylee.
