10/3/2021 7:45:00 AM | Women's Volleyball
Monday's Action:
UNI at Loyola | Oct. 4 | 6 pm (News/Talk 1540 KXEL | ESPN+)
Â
The Panthers:
- UNI squares off with league-leading Loyola in a Monday match at Gentile Arena in Chicago. This is the first time that these teams have gone head to head since a 3-1 Ramblers victory in the 2021 Missouri Valley Conference Semifinals.
Â
- The Panthers lead the all-time series, 22-2, including a 10-0 advantage for true road matches. UNI won the first meeting in straight sets (15-4, 15-1, 15-6) October 4, 1985 in its first match of the Loyola Invitational.
Â
- UNI will be on the road for seven of its next nine MVC contests starting with Monday's tilt at Loyola. Previously, the Panthers opened conference play on a three-match homestand. It was the first time that UNI hosted its first three MVC outings since 2001.
Â
- The Panthers went 1-2 in their recent homestand. UNI swept Bradley, 3-0, before dropping decisions to Illinois State (3-2) and Drake (3-0).
Â
- Inga Rotto (107), Kaylissa Arndorfer (73), and Emily Holterhaus (73) are on consecutive match playing streaks to begin their college careers. Rotto is also on a 32-match blocking streak dating back to last February.
Â
- Emily Holterhaus had 11 kills on .476 hitting (11-1-21) with eight digs in Friday's match against Drake. She has tallied at least 11 terminations and eight digs in all three league contests this season.
Â
- Kira Fallert has a team-high-tying 15 service aces while also registering at least eight kills in every conference tilt. Fallert has also done well at preventing opposing aces recently as she has yielded just one reception error on 57 serves received within MVC action (.982 receiving).
Â
- Tayler Alden, the younger sister of former Loyola outside hitter Lexi Alden, is tied for the team high in aces with 15 service winners of her own. She has five matches this season with multiple aces including back-to-back outings entering this road swing.
- Jenna Brandt, who shares the setter position with Tayler Alden, also has been productive in the service zone. Brandt, the former Iowa State Cyclone, has 14 total aces compared to seven errors and leads UNI with a .965 serving percentage.
Â
- UNI returns 13 women that were with the program for the spring season including 2020-21 All-MVC honorees Emily Holterhaus (First Team), Inga Rotto (Second Team), and Tayler Alden (Freshman Team).
- Despite the challenges of the delayed 2020 campaign, the Panthers still qualified for the MVC Championship and made it to the league semifinals. UNI has earned tournament bids and semifinal berths for a league-record 36 seasons in a row.
