
UNI Drops Four-Setter at League-Leading Loyola

CHICAGO – Strong outings from Carly Spies and Kaylissa Arndorfer were not enough Monday at Gentile Arena as the UNI Panther volleyball team lost in four sets to the Loyola Ramblers (25-19, 16-25, 25-22, 25-17). Spies notched a career-high 10 blocks while collecting eight kills on .316 hitting, and Arndorfer posted a season-high 11 terminations with a .500 attack percentage.
The Panthers held the advantage in blocks by a 13-to-11 margin and also topped the Ramblers in the service zone with six aces produced compared to three aces allowed. UNI registered 51 kills with .207 hitting and added 43 total digs.
Carly Spies posted 10 blocks for UNI's first double-figure outing since November 24, 2017 when Piper Thomas had 10 rejections at Illinois State in the MVC Semifinals. Emily Holterhaus led the Panthers with 15 kills as part of a double-double (11 digs). Payton Ahrenstorff totaled a personal-best and team-high 17 digs. Ahrenstorff and Spies each served two aces, and both Kira Fallert and Megan Witte tallied one.
Set 1: UNI picked up its first lead at 3-2 when Kaylissa Arndorfer and Carly Spies teamed up for a block. The Ramblers later pulled ahead for good with a 3-0 run that put the score at 11-9. Loyola eventually won the set by a score of 25-17.
Set 2: The second stanza went back and forth early on and featured nine ties including 16-16. Kaylissa Arndorfer and Carly Spies combined to score the next eight consecutive points between their offense and defense featuring back-to-back-to-back combined blocks in one stretch. A Loyola attack error on set point closed a 25-16 UNI victory that leveled the contest, 1-1.
Set 3: Loyola jumped out to a 4-0 lead and stretched its lead to double digits at 17-7. Tayler Alden answered with a kill that started a 3-0 run and a Panther comeback that closed the gap to 22-20 on Megan Witte's first collegiate service ace. However, Loyola held off UNI from there for a 25-22 win.
Set 4: The Ramblers led from wire to wire in the fourth frame after starting on another 4-0 spurt. Loyola secured a 25-17 triumph for the 3-1 victory to push the league-leading Ramblers to an unblemished mark of 5-0 in the conference. UNI is now 6-11 overall including 1-3 in MVC matches.

The Panthers will continue their road swing this weekend with matches at Missouri State and Southern Illinois. Friday's match against the Bears is scheduled for 6 pm in Springfield, Missouri, and Saturday's contest versus the Salukis will begin at 5 pm in Carbondale, Illinois.
