Sunday is the home opener for No. 19 UNI Wrestling. The Panthers host No. 18 Oklahoma in a dual meet at 3 p.m. Oklahoma will wrestle Iowa State before the dual at 1 p.m. The Panthers enter the weekend with a 2-1 record and a 2-0 Big-12 mark. Oklahoma is 2-1 and 1-0 in Big 12 action with a win over West Virginia. The dual will be broadcast on the Panther Sports Network with affiliates across the region and live online at FloWrestling.org.
• Nine Panthers are ranked in various major polls, Brody Teske and Carter Isley are ranked in every poll. Teske jumped into the rankings as high as 6th in the FloWrestling rankings after earning a pair of wins over ranked opponents. Triston Lara, Keegan Moore and Pat Schoenfelder are ranked in the track wrestling rankings and Lance Runyon and Parker Keckeisen are ranked in the Open Mat rankings.Â
• Oklahoma returns all but one wrestler who saw action in 2019-20, featuring a lineup that showcases six NCAA qualifiers and two All-Americans. Six Sooners enter the weekend with top-15 rankings and three are undefeated on the season. Dom Demas is No. 7 at 141 and Anthony Matanona is ranked ninth at 174.Â
• Brody Teske was named the Big 12 Wrestler of the Week after picking up wins over Missouri's Connor Brown (No. 24) and Iowa State's Alec Mackall (No. 7). He is now 4-0 on the year and leads UNI in victories and dual points.Â
• Carter Isley is 3-0 on the season with two dual victories. Two of his three wins came against Top-15 wrestlers, including his 3-2 win over Missouri's Zach Elam last weekend in Ames. Â
• UNI dropped last weekend's dual against No. 9 Missouri 34-6, but the Panthers went 11-5 in extra bouts, including 4-1 against Missouri.Â
•Three wrestlers in the lineup have qualified for nationals, but only transfer Keegan Moore has actually wrestled in the NCAA Championships. Jack Skudlarczyk and Carter Isley both qualified for the 2020 NCAA Championships before it was canceled.Â
• Four wrestlers from Fort Dodge High School started for the Panthers in all three duals. Brody Teske (125), Drew Bennett (141), Triston Lara (149) and Cayd Lara (157) are all in the lineup for UNI. It is believed that it is the first time that four wrestlers from the same high school were in the same lineup since 1949 when four Waterloo West wrestlers lined up for Cornell College.
• The Panthers next host Oklahoma State on Jan. 31 at 1 p.m.
• Iowa State will travel to Cedar Falls to face the Sooners at 1 p.m. before the Panthers and OU wrestle at 3 p.m.
•UNI will only leave the state of Iowa twice for road duals. The opening weekend duals in South Dakota and Feb. 5 in a dual against Northern Illinois.
• Home attendance will be allowed at 15% of capacity. Face coverings and social distancing will be mandatory.
