Panther Pro Report Week Three: Fort Plays Monday Night
9/27/2020 9:38:00 AM | Football
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The NFL season enters week three, and three Panthers, David Johnson (Texans), L.J. Fort (Ravens) and Daurice Fountain (Colts), are active. Fort had a standout week two to lead the UNI contingent, and his Ravens play the Chiefs on Monday Night Football this week.
WEEK TWO
L.J. Fort – 1 tackle – 1 FR – 22-yard Fumble return - 1 TD
Fort didn't get as much action on defense as he did in week one, but he took advantage of his opportunities. He returned a fumble 22 yards for a touchdown to put Baltimore up 21-7 over the Texans.
His strong play over the first two weeks is getting recognition. Pro Football Focus rates him as the highest graded linebacker with a minimum of 50 snaps.
David Johnson - 11 carries – 34 yards – 2 rec – 16 yards
Johnson faced Fort's Ravens, and one result of that fumble return touchdown was fewer touches for Johnson. For the second straight week, his production was limited when his team fell behind. He had 11 carries for 34 yards.
Daurice Fountain – 0 targets
Fountain is trying to find room in the Colts deep receiving corps. He was on the field for 21% of snaps but was not targeted for a pass in the game.
UP NEXT
The Texans schedule has been brutal so far this season, and it doesn't get easier this week. After facing the Chiefs and the Ravens in week one and two, Houston travels to Pittsburgh to face the 2-0 Steelers. Pittsburgh is currently the top team in the league in rushing yards per game allowed with just 66.5. Noon kickoff for this game.
Indianapolis hosts the New York Jets. The Jets are among the worst defenses in the league but are middle of the road in receiving yards allowed. If Fountain is on the field for a similar snap count number, his targets should increase in his second week on the active roster. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:05 p.m.
The Ravens take on the Chiefs on Monday night in one of the most anticipated games of the regular season. This one has the makings of a shootout, but a big play on defense can be a game-changer. With a forced fumble and two fumble recoveries on the year, Fort has already shown his big-play potential this season. Kickoff is set for 7:15 p.m. Monday.
