Panthers Split Final Day of Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic

Conway, Ark. – The Panthers went 1-1 on the Final Day of the Adam Brown Memorial Shamrock Classic. UNI now sits 6-10 Overall with 2 weeks before Conference play starts.
GAME 1 | Northern Iowa 8, ULM 4
Senior Ashley Chesser went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs on Sunday, helping to lead UNI to victory as the Panthers easily took down the UL Monroe Warhawks by a final score of 8-4.
Freshman Samantha Heyer (3-5) got the win for UNI (6-9). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on nine hits, allowing no walks and striking out six.
Chesser led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with two doubles, a walk and two RBIs.
Senior Sammey Bunch provided a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with a double. Freshman Taylor Hogan also contributed, going 2-for-3 for UNI with an RBI.
The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring in the first inning. UNI scored three times, picking up one on an RBI base knock off the bat of senior Jenny Kohl.
The Panthers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the second inning after the Warhawks cut it to 3-2. UNI scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-RBI double from Chesser, which brought the score to 6-2 in favor of the Panthers.
UL Monroe narrowed Northern Iowa's lead to 6-3 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 7-3 in the sixth inning. The Panthers scored once on a run-scoring single off the bat of Hogan.The Warhawks gained ground, closing the gap to 7-4 until UNI added some insurance in the seventh. Senior Tianna Drahn crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Panthers, bringing the score to 8-4 in favor of UNI. The score remained 8-4 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.

Sophomore Hannah Kelley (1-2) got the ball to start for UNI (6-10) and took the loss. Freshman Samantha Heyer was a bright spot for the Panthers, starting the ballgame and throwing 1.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
Senior Olivia Brooks led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 3-for-3 in the ballgame. Kelley put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4.
UNI managed one chance with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position. The Panthers last got a runner on third in the second, when senior Jenny Kohl made it 60 feet away from scoring with nobody out.
