Six Panthers Earn All-Conference Honors, UNI Men First at MVC

Cedar Falls, Iowa – Six Panthers rose onto the podium today, earning all-conference honors with big career best marks by four of them in the process. Twelve additional Panthers hope to do the same tomorrow after earning spots in the final running events. The Panther men are first after day one and the UNI women are third.
Chase Van Sant took second in the long jump after jumping for a personal best distance of 7.42m, 21 centimeters better than his previous best. He edged out teammate Jack Sumners with a distance of 7.41m.
Kyler Yodts and Darius King also brought home silver and bronze in the weight throw with personal best throws. Yodts' throw of 20.21m was over a meter better than his previous mark of 19.16. Darius King also had a huge personal best with a throw of 19.87m.
Cam Bauer tied for third in the men's pole vault with a personal-best height of 4.91m. Isabelle Holtzen earned third place in the women's pole vault with a height of 3.63m.
On the women's side, six move on to the finals tomorrow. Hannah Schau and Megan Hudson move on in the 60-meter hurdles with times of 8.73* and 8.78*. Taylor Raines and Tyler Gray move on in the 200-meter dash with times of 25.33 and 23.35*. Dianna Slight and Katie Nimrod move on in the 800-meter run with times of 2:16.65 and 2:18.36.
Isaiah Trousil, Tayshaun Cooper and Eli Hicks will compete in the finals tomorrow in both the 60-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Trousil and Cooper both recorded personal bests in the 60m with times of 6.80. Their 200m qualifying times were 21.88 and 22.00 respectively. Hicks ran the 60m in 6.91 and the 200m in 22.26.
Sumners looks to see the podium again in the 60-meter hurdles after qualifying with a time of 8.17. Wal Khat will run in the 800-meter following his qualifying time of 1:54.06. CJ May's mile time of 4:20.41 put him into the final tomorrow.
After six scored events, the women are in third place with 30.5 points and the men are in first with 40.5 points. The championship continues Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. with the remaining pentathlon events. Field events will continue at 11 p.m. and running finals will begin at 1:25 p.m.
