
Panther Wrestling Closes Dual Season at Wisconsin

No. 17 UNI travels to No. 12 Wisconsin for the final dual of the 2019 season. Â UNI looks to rebound from a hard-fought loss at Iowa State Sunday. The Panthers are 7-4 on the year and closed Big 12 action with a 6-2 mark. Wisconsin is 11-5 overall and 4-5 in BIG TEN duals, including wins over Nebraska, Purdue and Michigan.
• Seven Panthers are ranked in various polls. Bryce Steiert and Taylor Lujan are both in the top-six across all polls and MAx Thomsen returned to the top-10 in all polls. Jay Schwarm (125), Jack Skudlarczyk (133), Michael Blockhus (141), Max Thomsen (149), Bryce Steiert (174), Taylor Lujan (184) and Carter Isley (285) are all ranked.Â
• The Badgers are coming off of a 20-12 win over No. 17 Michigan, but lost two of their last three duals. Seth Gross (133), Tristan Moran (141), Cole Martin (149), Evan Wick (165), Johnny Sebastian (184) and Trent Hillger (285) are all ranked in the FloWrestling Rankings. Gross is ranked first and is the defending national champion at 133.Â
• Taylor Lujan and Bryce Steiert both have Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors. Lujan was named the Big-12 Wrestler of the Week after winning Midlands and picking an MD in the Utah Valley Dual. It is the four of his career and the second on the season for UNI. He earned his 100th win South Dakota State. Steiert earned Big-12 Wrestler of the Week honors after taking second at the Cliff Keen Invite.Â
• Lujan is 23-2 on the season. four other Panther Wrestlers have won 18 or more bouts on year.
• Jay Schwarm is tied for first among Division I wrestlers with 13 DI falls.  He has a total of 14 falls this season and 48 for his career.Â
• The Panther Train wowed a McLeod Center crowd of 4,006 and won six bouts, including a Major Decision by Bryce Steiert at 184 en route to a 19-15 win over Oklahoma State, the first dual win over the Cowboys since 1991.Â
