UNI Women Host Illinois State Jan. 1, 2

UNI was expected to start the MVC conference slate off against Missouri State, but positive COVID tests on both the MSU and Valparaiso teams sees the Panthers now facing Illinois State for the first series. The MVC will shift the upcoming schedule and the changes will be announced at a later date.Â
• No designation has been made on ESPN+ or ESPN3 as of early Wednesday morning.Â
• UNI hosts the lone remaining undefeated team in the Valley. The Redbirds are 3-0 with wins over Saint Xavier, Western Illinois and Omaha. Illinois State hasn't played a game since Dec. 17 and five of its eight non-conference games were canceled.Â
•UNI fell to No. 25 South Dakota State 74-63 on Dec. 23 in Brookings, S.D. The Jackrabbits shot 43.9% from the field and made 20-25 from the free throw line in the win.Â
• UNI, Drake, Bradley and Loyola are the only MVC teams that haven't had a game canceled to date because of Covid-19 issues.
• Illinois State leads the all-time series 45-36. The Redbirds won the last four meetings, but the Panthers carried the previous nine. Last year's meeting in Cedar Falls was a 69-61 overtime win for Illinois State. Â
• Mary Crompton leads Illinois State at 15 PPG. Three other ISU players average double figures. As a team, ISU is shooting 48.8% from the field and 48.3% from three so far this year. Â
• UNI is ranked 43rd in three-pointers attempted and 38th three-pointers made in the NCAA. Bre Gunnels is ranked 43rd in the NCAA for free throws attempted and 43rd for free throws made.Â
• Rucker is ranked No. 16 on the All-Time Scoring list for the Panthers, now with 1,106 points in her career. She is 24 points behind Kerry Dawson in the 15th spot.Â
• Megan Maahs jumped three players to the No. 4 spot all-time on the all-time rebound list. She has 749 rebounds and is nine rebounds behind the No.  spot (Deb Drenth – 758).
• Karli Rucker leads UNI with 11.3 PPG, Maahs is second with 10.1 and Kam Finley averages 10.0. Eight Panthers average 5.6 PPG or more this season.
• UNI is now 3-4 for the season with wins over Creighton, Wichita State and South Dakota State. The losses came against Iowa, Iowa State, South Dakota St. and North Dakota State.Â
• UNI is ranked in the mid major poll. The Panthers are 24th in the poll. Missouri State is third, Drake is 15th and Bradley is receiving votes.Â
