CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI men's basketball team signed three student athletes from the state of Iowa on national signing day. The Panthers continue to find talent within the state of Iowa, signing Dubuque Hempstead guard Michael Duax and Cedar Falls standouts Landon Wolf and Chase Courbat.
"We are excited to officially add these three young men and their families to Panther Basketball," said head coach Ben Jacobson. "Each one of them has approached their academic and basketball careers with discipline and determination to excel at a high level. Most importantly they are great young guys from terrific families!"
Michael Duax, 6'5, 200 lbs, Guard
Michael Duax has played two years under head coach Curt Deutsch at Dubuque Hempstead. Duax is a 2 time unanimous 1st Team All-Conference selection and earned 1st Team All-State honors as a junior. Duax's junior season saw him average 20.9 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. The 6'5 guard was named the 2019-20 Mississippi Valley Divisional Player of the Year. Michael is the son of Bob and Katie Duax.
"Michael brings versatility to both ends of the floor," said Jacobson. "He plays every possession with great effort and energy which allows him to impact so many plays. He scores the ball in transition, at the rim, and continues to improve as a three point shooter. He also possesses the size and mobility to be a very good on-ball defender. We think Michael will be a tremendous two way player for us."
Landon Wolf, 6'5, 185 lbs, Guard
Landon Wolf is a Cedar Falls High School product, joining his brother Logan on the UNI roster. Wolf helped lead the Tigers to a 3rd place finish in the 2020 State Tournament. He was also voted to the 2020 State All-Tournament Team. Landon was named a 3rd Team All-State performer after his junior season which saw him average 12 points per game. The 6'5 guard shot 49% from the field and 44% from the three point line. Landon is the son of Paul and Stacy Wolf.
"Landon can really shoot the basketball!" said Jacobson. "That alone makes him a great fit for us, but it's the other things he showed this summer that sold us on him as a player. His improvement as a ball handler, passer, and a guy that finishes plays at the rim has been impressive. Landon deserves a lot of credit for the work he's put in and the changes he's made in becoming a better player. We look forward to seeing what's next for him as a Panther!"
Chase Courbat, 6'10, 230 lbs, Center
Chase Courbat is another Cedar Falls High School product coming from head coach Ryan Schultz. Courbat won two state championships for the Tigers in 2017-18 and 2018-19. He earned 1st Team All-Conference honors and helped lead the Tigers to a 3rd place finish in the State Tournament in 2020. Courbat finished his junior season averaging 10 points per game while shooting 59% from the field. The 6'10 center averaged 7 rebounds and 2 blocks per game. Chase is the son of Shaun and Stacey Courbat.
"Chase gives us a young, very active and mobile big," said Jacobson. "At his size he does a terrific job of running the floor, being an active defender and finishing at the rim. He's working hard to gain strength and continue to build on a very good summer of AAU basketball. We believe Chase will be very effective at both ends and keep getting better and better!"
