UNI Travels to SIU, Missouri State

UNI women's basketball continues a brutal road stretch at Southern Illinois and Missouri State. The road stretch, which started with a game against Iowa State and continued with the MVC opener at conference favorite Drake continues with a pair of games against two of the best teams in the MVC. The combined record for the four teams is 39-14 (.736). Southern Illinois is 9-4 on the season and owns wins over Northern Illinois and Murray State. They are 1-1 in league play. Missouri State is 12-2 and ranked in both the Coaches Poll and the AP Poll. They have wins over Boise State, Oklahoma, South Dakota and Minnesota. Their only losses were to Oregon State and Gonzaga on the road.Â
• The Panthers struggles with turnovers and despite a strong offensive game, fell to Drake 104-87 on the road in the Missouri Valley Conference opener.Â
• UNI closed non-conference with the most non-conference wins in school history (8), three wins over Power-Five Schools and an undefeated home record.Â
• Karli Rucker leads UNI at 12.8 points per game and Kam Finley is second for UNI with 12.1 PPG. Megan Maahs is third on the team with 9.7 PPG. Bre Gunnels leads with 5.4 rebounds per game and Maahs is averaging 4.5 RPG.Â
• SIU scores 73.5 points per game and is 31st in the nation in field goal percentage at 45.2%. Makenzie Silvey leads the Salukis at 17.5 PPG and three players average double figures for SIU. Abby Brockmeyer averages a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game to go with 11.2 ppg.Â
• Missouri State is picked up steam late last season, advancing to the sweet 16 and despite a coaching change, continue to play at an elite level. Alexa Willard leads the Bears with 17.9 points per game and Jasmine Franklin scores 11.1 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. The Bears are ranked second in the Mid-Major Poll.Â
• The Panthers are ranked sixth in the NCAA in free-throw percentage at 78.9%. UNI is also 18th in the NCAA with 8.7 three-pointers made per game.Â
• UNI has played in the postseason in nine of the last 10 seasons, including an appearance in the WNIT in 2019 where the Panthers met Minnesota in the first round.
• UNI played five games against Power-Five Opponents, the most among Missouri Valley Conference teams. The Panthers went 3-2 with wins over Iowa, Iowa State and Missouri.
