Panther Women's Hoops Opens MVC Play at Drake

UNI women's basketball opens Missouri Valley Conference play on the road at Drake in a matchup of two teams with high expectations after tremendous non-conference slates. The Panthers enter the MVC schedule with an 8-3 mark and are riding a three-game win streak, including a 71-63 road win over Iowa State. Drake is 8-4 on the season with wins over Iowa State, Creighton and Auburn under their belts. The Bulldogs are 7-0 at home.Â
• Kristina Cavey had a double-double and Karli Rucker scored a season-high 25 points to lead UNI to a come-from-behind 71-63 win over Iowa State in the final non-conference game of the season. UNI closed with the most non-conference wins in school history (8), three wins over Power-Five Schools and an undefeated home record.Â
• The Bulldogs are among the nation's leaders in scoring offense, assists, assist-to-turnover ratio and field goal percentage. Like the Panthers, they played a tough schedule that included four Power-five schools and other string opponents like South Dakota, South Dakota State and Creighton. Sara Rhine leads Drake with 18.8 points per game and Becca Hittner scores 15.8 points per game.Â
• Karli Rucker leads UNI at 12.8 points per game and Kam Finley is second for UNI with 11.6 PPG. Megan Maahs is third on the team with 9.9 PPG. Bre Gunnels leads with 5.7 rebounds per game and Maahs is averaging 4.8 RPG.Â
• UNI returns 2018-19 First-Team All-MVC honoree Karli Rucker and 2017-18 First-Team All-MVF honoree Megan Maahs to court. Maahs returns after missing most of the 2018-19 season with an injury.Â
• The Panthers are ranked third in the NCAA in free-throw percentage at 80.4%. UNI is also 34th in the NCAA with 8.2 Three-pointers made per game.Â
• UNI has played in the postseason in nine of the last 10 seasons, including an appearance in the WNIT in 2019 where the Panthers met Minnesota in the first round.
• Karli Rucker is the leading returning scorer at 15.0 points per game for the 2018-19 season.Â
