UNI Women Fall to Drake in MVC Opener

DES MOINES, Iowa – The UNI Panther offense scored 87 points, well above its season average, but the Panthers gave up the most points in a
game since the 1994-95 season, falling to Drake 104-87.
Four Panthers scored in double figures led by Kam Finley with 18 points. Nicole Kroeger hit five three-pointers to score 15 points, Kristina Cavey came off the bench to score 14 and Karli Rucker had 12 points and eight assists. The Panthers were 29-67 (43.3%) from the field and 14-35 (40%) from the three-point line.
The two teams started the game trading shots early. The Panthers led 8-6 before Drake went on a 13-4 run to take a 19-10 lead. The Bulldogs led 28-17 after the first quarter. UNI rallied to cut the lead to 40-36 on a Finley three-pointer with 1:57 to play in the second quarter, but Drake closed the half on a 14-3 run and never looked back.
Becca Hittner was 18-18 from the free-throw line and ended the game with 37 points. Sara Rhine added 16 and Kierra Collier added 11 points and eight assists. The Bulldogs were 37-66 (56.1%) from the field and 8-19 (42.1%) from the three-point line.
UNI falls to 8-4 on the year and 0-1 in MVC play while Drake is now 9-4 and 1-0.

UNI had the remainder of the week off before traveling to Southern Illinois on Friday, Jan. 10 and Missouri State on Sun. Jan 12. UNI plays its first home game in over on month on Jan. 17 against Evansville.
