UNI Women's Tennis Opens at Des Moines With Four New Panthers

CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – UNI women's tennis team is set to kick off the 2019-20 season Friday through Sunday at the Drake Invitational the at Rodger Knapp Tennis Center starting in Des Moines.
Four new Panthers will see action for the Panthers to start the 2019-20 season including freshmen Emma Carr, Kim Zizek, Thaissa Moreira and Northern Colorado transfer Madeline Doherty who will be a junior.
Morganne Borsh, Valentina Caro, Olivia Fain, and Harri Proudfoot return to the courts for the Panthers.
Carr comes to UNI from The Hockaday School in Dallas. She earned all-conference honors her junior and senior seasons and was named the team MVP after her senior campaign. She earned a USTA Texas Top-20 ranking and was undefeated her junior and senior seasons.
Zizek, a native Maribor, Slovenia, where she was a Grand Slam Leibnitx winner in singles in 2016 and doubles in 2017. In 2018, she was a finalist in the National championship for her doubles team. In the Maribor open (national tournament) 2017 Kim was a finalist in singles.
Moreira joins the Panther squad from Vila Velha, Brazil. She earned player of the year honors for her club, Espíritio Santo. She played in Ronald Garros Junior Wild Card 2019 where the best eight players in Brazil compete. Thaissa was second in national tournament 2016. Thaissa was a doubles champion 2016 in South America.
The lone transfer, Doherty comes to UNI from Northern Colorado where she competed in the No. 4 spot in the singles for the Bears. She won six matches during the season at UNC. She originally hails from Lenexa, Kansas, where she was a state qualifier and a Kansas Regent Scholar.
The women compete in both singles and doubles throughout the weekend. Matches start at 10 a.m. September 13 and 9 a.m. September 14 and 15 at the Rodger Knapp Tennis Center.
