Panther Football Picked Fifth in MVFC Preseason Poll

ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Valley Football Conference coaches and media picked the UNI Panther football team fifth in the preseason poll released by the league Monday.
Defending national champion North Dakota State was picked first with 392 points and 32 first-place votes. South Dakota State comes in at the No. 2 pick with 348 points and four first-place votes.
The third, fourth and fifth picks were separated by just 23 total points. Illinois State was picked third at 289, Indiana State was fourth with 279 points and UNI was fifth with 266 points.
South Dakota, Youngstown State, Western Illinois, Southern Illinois and Missouri State round out the remainder of the poll.
UNI is coming off of its fourth playoff appearance in five seasons and finished 5-3 in MVFC play and tied for third in the final standings.
The Panthers kick off the season on the road against Iowa State on Aug. 31 before hosting Southern Utah on Sept. 7 and Idaho State on Sept. 21.
UNI is slated to open camp this week with players reporting on Aug. 1 and the first day of practice coming on August 2.
