Softball Takes Both Games of Saturday Doubleheader

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI softball swept its Saturday doubleheader against Loyola Ramblers, as the Panthers outscored Loyola 14-1 in two games.
Northern Iowa vs. Loyola | Final Score – W, 6-1
Erica Oler picked up her fourth career victory in a complete game effort against Loyola in game one of the doubleheader. It was the first complete game of Oler's career, in her third start of the season.
Oler pitched seven innings while striking out three batters and allowing one run to score. Oler allowed seven base hits and walked two.
The Panthers kicked off the scoring early on an Ashley Chesser triple into right field in the second inning, that brought home Courtney Krodinger. Jaclyn Spencer would drive in a run on a groundout to give UNI the early 2-0 lead.
In the top of the fifth, Sammey Bunch singled to center field to drive in Jenny Kohl. Spencer would tack on a two-run single in the sixth inning to extend the Panther's lead to four runs.
The Panthers would tack on an insurance run in top of the seventh on a base hit to score Brittney Krodinger.
C. Krodinger finished with a team-high three base hits in game one. Spencer drove in three runs, a season-high for a single game for her. Both C. Krodinger and Chesser came around to score twice in the game.

Jaclyn Spencer picked up her eighth pitching victory of the season, along with her fourth shutout of 2019, in a five inning effort against Loyola in game two of the doubleheader.
Spencer struck out four while holding the Ramblers to two hits and one walk, for her ninth complete game of the year.
For the second straight game, the Panthers got the scoring started early. UNI scored four runs in the first inning, on a C. Krodinger double to left field and a two-run home run from Chesser.
The top of the second saw B. Krodinger line a two-run shot to left field, for her tenth of the season. The Panthers have three hitters with over 10 home runs in 2019.
B. Krodinger and Bunch singled in runs on back-to-back hits in the top of the third, to give the Panthers an eight run lead heading to the bottom of the frame.
The Cats would be held scoreless for the final two frames, as they run ruled the Ramblers in five innings, for the 15th UNI conference win of 2019.
UP NEXT –
The Panthers will play a single game against the Ramblers on Sunday, May 5 to close out the set. The game is set for a 11:00 a.m. first pitch time.
