Heitland Finishes Third in Drake Relays Decathlon

DES MOINES – Austin Heitland finished third in the decathlon to highlight Thursday's events at the Drake Relays for the UNI track and field team.

Heitland finished fifth in the 110-meter hurdles, fourth in the discus, fourth in the pole vault, sixth in the javelin and fourth in the 1,500-meter run to close out the third-place finish with a score of 6,644.

In the heptathlon, Brooke Lorenz finished second in the javelin to take seventh in the heptathlon with a score of 4,693. Erica Loussaert closed out the day 10th in the competition with a final mark of 4,439.

In other events, Wal Khat finished seventh in the unseeded 1,500-meter with a career-best time of 3:52.21.

McKayla Cole finished 10th in the 10,000-meter run with a career-best time of 36:17.83, and Alex Jackson finished 11th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a career-best time of 9:16.42.

The Drake Relays continue all day Friday and Saturday.
