UNI Track and Field Picked Second, Fourth in Pre-Championship Poll

ST. LOUIS – The UNI men's track and field team was picked second with three first-place votes while the UNI women were picked fourth in the 2019 Indoor Pre-Championship Poll released by the Missouri Valley Conference Thursday.
Nine Panther men currently sit in the top three and 24 are in the top eight in the conference rankings.
Tayshaun Cooper has the fastest time to date in the conference in the 60m dash at 6.88 and the men's 4x400-relay team has the top time in the MVC at 3:10.61.
On the women's side, Three UNI athletes are currently ranked in the top three and 10 are ranked in the top eight.
Maddie McCalla has the top MVC time in the 400-meter dash at 55.10.
Illinois State was picked to win in both the men's and women's championships. The Redbirds received 77 points on the men's side, including six first-place votes. UNI was second with 71, followed by 64 points for Valparaiso.
On the women's side, Illinois State earned 99 points and nine first-place votes. Indiana State was second with 81 points and one first-place vote. Southern Illinois was third with 78 points and UNI was picked fourth with 68 total points.
The championship will take place Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 23-24 at the UNI-Dome.
