CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Panthers travel to Jacksonville, Florida, to participate in the Osprey/Dolphin Invitational from Feb 15-17.
UNI will start off the weekend against the College of Charleston 3:30 p.m. CT Feb. 15, and Jacksonville University 6 p.m. Friday. UNI will play three more times over the weekend, with games against College of Charleston (1 p.m. Saturday) and the University of North Florida twice (3:30 p.m. Saturday; 11 a.m. Sunday).
The Panthers enter the weekend with a 3-2 record after opening the season in Cedar Falls in the UNI-Dome. Both of the Panthers' losses were to the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks. UNI closed out the tournament with a 10-2 win over the South Dakota State Jackrabbits on Sunday.
UNI is led by star shortstop Sammey Bunch, who kicked off the season with three home runs in three consecutive days. With three home runs, Bunch needs two more to match her 2018 total (five) and four more to tie her career-high (seven).
Outfielder Olivia Brooks, coming off a 2018 second-team All-MVC selection, is batting .500 after the first five games. Brooks is tied for second in the Missouri Valley Conference with seven hits.
Last season, the Panthers played in the Diamond 9 Citrus Blossom Invitational in Orlando, Florida, and went 5-1. UNI started off the tournament winning the first five games before dropping the weekend finale.
