Men's Basketball Defeats the Redbirds 77-64

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The UNI men's basketball team hosted the Redbirds of Illinois State in the McLeod Center on Wednesday night, defeating the Redbirds 77-64.
The Panthers took a 12 point lead into halftime behind 12 points from Trae Berhow and 11 from Spencer Haldeman. Berhow ended the first half perfect, going four for four from the field and three for three from beyond the three-point arc.
The threes dropped early and often in the first half, making nine of the teams 14 attempts. The Panthers made five of their nine three points in the final minutes of the half to take a comfortable 12 point lead at the break.
Collectively the Panthers made 16 threes to pull ahead of the Redbirds, breaking the season high of 12 made against Bemidji State in the season opener. The Panthers shot just under 47 percent from the field and shot 51.6 percent from beyond the arc.
Defensively the Panthers were able to shut down one of the league's top talents in Milik Yarbrough. Yarbrough leads the Redbirds in points and rebounding but the Panthers were able to hold him to five points and two rebounds.
Trae Berhow played at an elite level on Wednesday night, making shots in critical moments down the stretch. Berhow finished with a team-high 20 points and 6 rebounds, going seven for eleven from the field and five of eight from three.
Spencer Haldeman and AJ Green finished with 16 and 13 points respectively while Isaiah Brown finished with 10 points. Senior Wyatt Lohaus recorded a team-high five assists and hauled in four rebounds.

The Panthers, 11-15 overall and 6-7 in the MVC, will now travel to Evansville, Indiana for a Sunday showdown with the Purple Aces. Evansville is now 10-16 and 4-9 in the MVC after falling to Missouri State 68-56 at home. The Panthers defeated the Purple Aces 81-74 in the McLeod Center on Jan 26. Sunday's game will tip off at 3 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPN3.
