Panther Wrestling Takes On Midlands Championship

• The Panthers travel to Chicago for their final regular-season varsity tournament of the season at the Midlands Classic. The Panthers finished second as a team last year in the best finish in program history. Josh Alber and Drew Foster won their weight classes to become the seventh and eighth Midlands Champions in school history.

• The Panthers return five wrestlers that placed in last year's event. Kyle Biscoglia (7th) and Michael Blockhus (4th) placed unattached while Max Thomsen (2nd), Bryce Steiert (4th) and Taylor Lujan (2nd) all look to get back on the podium for the Panther Train.

• Taylor Lujan is the top seed in his bracket, but the Pathers have strong representation in the seedings in six of the 10 weight classes. At 133, FloWestling listed Jack Skudlarczyk among their sleepers at that weight.

• Jay Schwarm (125), Michael Blockhus (141), Max Thomsen (149), Bryce Steiert (174), Taylor Lujan (184), Jacob Holschlag (197) and Carter Isley (285) are all ranked in the top-15 in their weight classes in various polls. Blockhus and Isley moved up in the polls after a strong performance at the Cliff Keen Invite in Las Vegas.

• Eighteen Panther Wrestlers are registered for the Midlands. Drew Bennett, Kyle Biscoglia, Michael Blockhus, Gable Fox, Keaton Geerts, Noah Glaser, Tyrell Gordon, Derek Holschlag, Carter Isley, Triston Lara, Taylor Lujan, Paden Moore, Pat Schoenfelder, Jay Schwarm, Jack Skudlarczyk, Bryce Steiert, Max Thomsen and Austin Yant are all listed as participants.

• The Panthers are coming off a strong performance at the UNI-Open where Seven Panthers placed in the top three and Drew Bennett earned the title with a 3-2 decision of Iowa State's Ramazan Attasauov.
