
Panther Women's Basketball Signs Six

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - UNI women's basketball coach Tanya Warren announced the signing of six student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. All six athletes are from Iowa and the group includes three guards and three forwards.

"This is an incredible day for our basketball program," Warren said. "These six young women are very talented, proven winners and each is passionate about the game. They all are very excited to become a part of our Panthers family and have the potential to do some extremely special things over the next four to five years."

Cedar Falls High School standout Emerson Green joins her brother, 2018-19 MVC men's basketball Freshman of the Year AJ Green, in the purple and gold. She was a high school teammate of Kam Finley, Cynthia Wolf and Kiana Barney.

Grace Boffeli was a teammate of Panther All-Conference honoree Karli Rucker at North Scott High School just north of the Quad Cities. Boffeli's dad, Paul, played baseball for UNI in the 80s.

Two new Panthers come from the Des Moines area in Urbandale's Maya Gyamfi and Johnston's Maya McDermott. Kayba Laube comes to UNI after a strong career at Marion HS. Taryn Scheueremann hails from Keosuagua in southwest Iowa.

Grace Boffeli – 6-1 - Forward - Eldridge, Iowa - North Scott HSÂ
Boffeli is the reigning Mississippi Athletic Conference Player of the year and a two-year First-team All-State honoree. A three-year starter, she helped lead North Scott to state championships in 2017, with current Panther Karli Rucker, and again in 2019. She was third in class 4A for scoring and rebounding her junior year with 449 total points (10.0 PPG) and 273 rebounds (10.9 RPG). She was even more dominant during the 2019 state tournament where she led the Lancers with 20.3 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. She owns school records for field goals in a season and for field goal percentage (65.5%). She is a four-year honor roll student with a 3.8 GPA.

Emerson Green – 5-10 - Point guard – Cedar Falls, Iowa – Cedar Falls HS
Purple is a common color in the wardrobes of the Green family. Emerson is the daughter of UNI men's hoops Associate Head Coach Kyle Green and the sister of AJ Green, the Panther starting point guard. She also has the chance to reunite with former teammates Kiana Barney, Cynthia Wolf and Kiana Barney. Emerson is a two-time First-Team All-State basketball honoree. She also earned All-State honors twice in track and field and once in volleyball. She averaged 18.4 PPG her junior season and shot 47.1 percent from the field. She enters her senior year with 914 career points. She was a member of the 2019 3A runner-up squad and part of the 2018 volleyball state championship squad.

Maya Gyamfi – 6-1 – forward – Urbandale, Iowa – Urbandale HS
Urbandale's Maya Gyamfi is a four-year starter at Urbandale where she led Urbandale in scoring as a junior with 13.5 PPG. She was a second-team All-Conference honoree last year. The J-Hawks advanced to the state Quarterfinals, making the state tournament for the first time in 25 years. As a sophomore, she averaged 13.4 points per game and earned Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition. She was fifth on the team with 7.8 PPG her freshman season.

Kayba Laube – 5-9 - Guard – Marion, Iowa – Marion HS
Laube is a three-sport star where she has earned three All-State honors on the basketball court and All-Conference Volleyball and soccer recognition. She is a four-year starter for the Marion Indians. She has 1,145 career points, including a career-high 433 points last season. She led the 2017-18 team with 352 points. That team went undefeated and outscored opponents 196-133 in the state tournament in Des Moines on the way to the title. Marion has played in the last three state championship games. She has helped lead Marion to six WAMAC Conference championships during her career. Off the court, she is a National Honor Society Member and a three-sport Academic All-State honoree. She is also a Silver Cord honoree. Her sister Mia Laube is a sophomore at St. Thomas (Minn.).

Maya McDermott – 5-6 - Point Guard - Johnston, Iowa - Johnston HS
McDermott is a three-year All-State honoree and a team captain at Johnston High School. Last year, she led the Dragons with 475 point (19.0 PPG) and 139 assists, good enough for fourth in the state for all classes. She has 309 career assists, a school record, to go along with 1,178 career points. Johnston finished the year with a 22-3 record and lost out in overtime of the Iowa 5A semifinals to eventual champions West Des Moines Valley. Her freshman year, she hit a hook-shot, three-point buzzer beater to force overtime in where the Dragons won to earn a trip to the state tournament. She is a four-year soccer player and led Johnston with 14 goals a season ago.

Taryn Scheuermann – 6-3 – center – Keosuagua, Iowa – Van Buren Community HS
Scheuermann comes to UNI from Keosaugua, the seat of Van Buran County with a population just over 1,000 people. At Van Buren, she led the Warriors with 451 points last season, 214 rebounds and set the all-class single-season block record with 181. She has 1,266 career points, 605 career rebounds and is poised to blow away the career All-Class block record. Right now, she has 470 in three seasons, just 45 blocks short of WNBA Player Kiah Stokes' All-Class record of 515. She helped lead Van Buren to district co-championships in volleyball and basketball last year. Scheuermann earned Second-Team All-State honors her junior year, was named the conference Co-MVP her junior season and named the Burlington-Hawkeye Player of the Year her junior season. She is a member of the National Honor Society, a platinum honor roll student and ranked in the top-10 in her class. Scheuermann's family built a full-court, indoor hardwood basketball court on their property to help meet the small community's need for more gym space.
