UNI Football Faces South Dakota State in Another Top-10 Match Up

UNI Football heads on the road for the final road game of the season and faces South Dakota State in the fourth top-10 matchup for UNI on the season. Saturday, the Panthers held on for a 17-9 win over Indiana State. The Jackrabbits fell at home to Illinois State 27-18. UNI is on a four-game win streak and playing its third road game in four weeks. Both teams are 7-3 on the year, but UNI is alone in the second spot in the MVFC with a 5-1 league record while SDSU is tied with Illinois State and Southern Illinois for third at 4-2. UNI leads the series which dates back to 1935, 31-21-2.
•The Panthers forced three turnovers and got touchdowns from Suni Lane and Trevor Allen to top Indiana State 17-0. Elerson G. Smith notched a pair of sacks including a strip-sack in the final Indiana State drive. Christian Jegen tallied his second interception in two weeks and Spencer Perry tallied his first interception as a Panther.
• The win over Southern Utah was Head coach Mark Farley's 150th career victory. He is the winningest coach in UNI and Missouri Valley Football History and the 10th coach in FCS history with 150 FCS victories.
• UNI is 11th in the FCS in total defense, 10th in scoring defense, 22nd in tackles for loss and 12th in sacks. After four games with three or more turnovers, the Panthers are now third in the FCS and first in the MVFC in turnovers gained.
• Isaiah Weston and Chris Kolarevic are building resumes for comeback player of the year honors. Weston missed all of last season and through nine games sits atop the MVFC in receiving TDs, Receiving yards and yards per catch. Kolarevic has played in just seven games, but is already fifth on the team in total tackles and earned a pair of MVFC Player of the Week honors.
• The Panthers have earned a Missouri Valley Player of the Week honor after eight of 10 games this season. Matthew Cook was named the Special Teams Player of the Week after the Iowa State game and again after Missouri State, McElvain earned Newcomer of the Week honors after the Southern Utah game and Elerson G. Smith was named the Defensive Player of the Week after the Idaho State win and again after the Youngstown State victory. Against Weber State, McElvain earned his second NOFW honor and Chris Kolarevic picked up DPOTW honors and again after the South Dakota game. Isaiah Weston was named the Offensive Player of the Week after the South Dakota game. Omar Brown earned DPOTW and NOTW honors after the Illinois State game.
