Panthers Picked Third, Rucker Named Preseason All-MVC

ST. LOUIS - UNI women's basketball was picked third in the Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll and junior guard Karli Rucker was named to the MVC Preseason All-Conference team, the conference announced Thursday.
The Panthers enter the 2019-20 season after earning a fifth straight postseason appearance. UNI went 12-6 in the MVC and 20-13 overall earning a spot in the WNIT.
UNI lost three seniors but brings back two All-MVC honorees in Karli Rucker and Megan Maahs. Grad transfer Kristina Cavey joins UNI from Fresno State, where Cavey started the first 19 games of the 2018-19 season for the Bulldogs.
Rucker had a breakout year in her sophomore campaign averaging 15 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game. Maahs returns to the lineup after missing most of the season due to an injury. Maahs averaged 10.4 points and 9.8 rebounds in 2017-18 and tallied 14 double-doubles en route to All-MVC honors.
Defending champion Drake received 31 first-place votes and 359 points. Missouri State gained 8 first-place votes and 329 points. While UNI received 1 first-place vote and 297 points.
UNI opens the season with an exhibition game against Upper Iowa on Oct. 27 at the Mcleod Center.
