Panthers Fall to Redbirds

NORMAL, Illinois – The UNI men's basketball team hit the road for the team's third MVC game of the season. The Panthers and Redbirds battled for all forty minutes but it was the Redbirds that came out on top 70-69.
The Panthers struggled in the opening ten minutes but managed to turn it up at the end of the half and hold the lead. Entering halftime the Panthers held a one point lead while going 12 of 29 from the field.
The Redbirds outscored the Panthers 12-4 in the opening six minutes of the second half. Big shots from Spencer Haldeman and Wyatt Lohaus closed the gap with the Redbirds. The Panthers got within two points of Illinois State with 18 seconds remaining but were unable to close it out.
AJ Green again led the Panthers in scoring with 19 points while Tywhon Pickford and Wyatt Lohaus each finished with eleven points.
Isaiah Brown recorded ten total rebounds on the night. Luke McDonnell added three offensive rebounds while Tywhon Pickford led the Panthers with four assists.

The Panthers will be back in the McLeod Center on Sunday, January 13 when they host the Bulldogs of Drake University. Nick McGlynn and DJ Wilkins are the only two players to start every game for the Bulldogs this season. McGlynn has made 55 percent of his shots this season, and leads the Bulldogs in scoring with 16.3 points per game. Wilkins has done his damage from beyond the three point arc, making 33 three points in the team's first 15 games. The in-state rivalry will tip off at 3 pm in the McLeod Center.
