
UNI Football Hosts Hampton in Home Opener

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - The Panther home opener is set for Saturday at the UNI-Dome against Hampton (Va.). Both teams have two games down this season. No. 21 UNI is 0-2 after losses at Montana and Iowa. Hampton split its two games, winning game one against DII Shaw and dropping a road game against Monmouth.Â
UNI fell to Iowa last week 38-14 at Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. UNI put up more points (14), passing yards (222) and total yards (226) than Iowa's previous opponents Iowa State and Northern Illinois. Defensively, the Panthers recorded more sacks and TFLs than both opponents combined. Â
Briley Moore and Elias Nissen tallied their first touchdown catches of the season. Eli Dunne entered the game in the second half and went 18-28 for 200 yards and two touchdowns. Â Defensively, the Panthers racked up seven tackles for loss, including three sacks. Jared Brinkman recorded the first two sacks of his career. A.J. Allen and Duncan Ferch each recorded interceptions.Â
Delmon Williams leads the Pirates from the quarterback positon. He is 26-55 passing with a pair of interceptions and four touchdowns on the year. Eight different Pirates have rushing events on the year Devin Anderson leads the way with 72 yards total. Ronald Bell has 10 catches on the season for 138 yards and two TDs to lead the receiving corps.Â
On defense, Kapri Doucet has 11 total tackles for the season, including a game-high 3.5 tackles for loss. Deconte Spruill has the lone interception on the year which he returned for 23 yards.Â

• The Panthers are ranked No. 21 in the STATS FCS Preseason Poll and No. 22 in the FCS Coaches' Preseason Poll.
• UNI is one of 21 teams in the FCS that has scored in every trip to the red zone. The Panthers are tied with Illinois State and Indiana State for the lead in the Missouri Valley Football Conference.
• Running back Marcus Weymiller, offensive tackle Cal Twait, quarterback Eli Dunne and linebacker Duncan Ferch were announced as captains for the 2018 season by head coach Mark Farley.Â
• The Panthers have outscored their opponents 37-17 after the break. UNI has a 30-0 advantage in the fourth quarter over the first two games of the season.
• Brothers Trevor and AJ Allen, sons of Panther Hall of Famer Andre Allen, are both making waves for UNI early this season. Trevor is UNI's leading rusher through two games. AJ notched an interception late in the first half against Iowa. He is also third on the team with 18 tackles.
• The Panthers are among the nation's leaders in fewest penalties and fewest penalty yards. The ranking is made even more impressive after playing two road games in hostile environments. UNI ranks 23rd in the country and second in the MVFC.
