CEDAR FALLS, Iowa—The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team will travel to Iowa City this weekend to take on VCU and Central Michigan.

The Panthers will meet VCU (2-1) for the first time in program history on Aug. 24. VCU is on a two-game winning streak after dropping their season opener against UNC Wilmington.

When UNI and Central Michigan (1-2) meet on Sunday, Sept. 2, it will be the second meeting for the programs and a UNI player. UNI midfielder Haddie Carlson spent her first season playing for Central Michigan, seeing action in 16 games. During the first meeting between the programs in 2010, Central Michigan was victorious in that meeting, 2-0.Â

Central Michigan comes into the match having a win over Southern Utah in the second game of the season.

Neutral Field AssistanceÂ
The Panthers will play their next two games on a neutral field against VCU and Central Michigan in Iowa City. The Panthers did not lose last season on a neutral field. The Panthers have not had seasons with back-to-back neutral field games since the 2011-12-13 seasons. During those three seasons, the Panthers posted a 1-3-1 record on neutral fields.Â

Sophia Conant (Hastings, Neb.) and Jami Reichenberger (Wichita, Kan.) have been named the MVC Newcomer and Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference.Â
In her third appearance for the Panthers, Conant made a big impact for the Panthers looking for their first win of the season. In the 87th minute against a tough Colorado State team, Conant flicked the ball in on the right side of the net. This was Conant's first goal of the season.
Reichenberger continued her strong defense of the Panther goal, deflecting six shots on goal from Colorado State. Reichenberger had three saves against Colorado State. Against Wyoming, Reichenberger faced nine shots on goal with four saves. Wyoming had 21 shots against the Panther goal. Reichenberger has made 22 saves in three games this season. UNI is one of ten programs in the nation with a .000 Goals Against Average.Â

The Panthers ended their match against Wyoming on Aug. 24 with a 0-0 score after double overtime. Sophia Conant scored her first goal as a Panther in the 87th minute against Colorado State on Aug. 26, helping the Panthers to their first win on the season.
