FORT COLLINS, Colo. — The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team (1-0-2) secured its first win of the season against Colorado State (1-1-2).
Â
Freshman Sophia Conant scored her first goal as a Panther in the 87th minute, placing the ball on the inside of the goal. Conant led the Panthers in shots (2), playing 26 minutes in the match.
Â
Colorado State was on the attack during the game, placing 16 shots in front of the Panther goal. Jami Reichenberger led the defensive effort by the Panthers, deflecting six of the Rams shots.
Â
"Incredible effort by our group today," said head coach Bruce Erickson. "To (be able to) get two results on the road against two very good teams says a lot about our fight and grit right now. It wasn't pretty, but it was a great team effort. Hats off to Bill and Colorado State, they were a quality team and it took everything we had to get the win."
Â
The Panthers return to the state of Iowa to take on VCU and Central Michigan, with both matches taking place in Iowa City. VCU and the Panthers will meet at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 31. This will be the first meeting between the teams. Central Michigan and the Panthers will meet at 11 a.m. Sept. 2 for the second time in program history.
