CEDAR FALLS, IOWA – The Panthers struggled on Sunday against the Evansville Purple Aces, dropping both games in the doubleheader.
Northern Iowa Panthers vs. Evansville Purple Aces | Final Score – L, 6-2
Junior Brooke Craig was the starter for UNI in game one of the doubleheader in Evansville. Craig was able to go just two innings, while allowing two runs to score and striking out one batter. Courtney Krodinger and Emma Olejniczak both pitched in relief in the game, with each lasting two innings.
C. Krodinger gave up two unearned runs on three hits and two walks. Olejniczak struck out two batters, while allowing two runners to cross the plate.
The offense was stagnant for much of the game, as the Panthers only tallied three hits in the first contest.
The Panthers were able to score first, as C. Krodinger drove in Sammey Bunch on a base hit to right field. The only other UNI run came on a fielder's choice off the bat of Ashley Chesser.
UNI will search for more consistency from the lower half of its batting order, as its 5-9 hitters went a combined 0-12 with five strikeouts in the game.

The second game of the doubleheader for the Panthers spelled a familiar sight, a first inning lead for UNI, before a complete freeze on offense.
Olejniczak got the start for UNI, and barring some early inning nerves, was able to settle down for four solid innings. The freshman ran into some trouble in the fifth, however, as she allowed a three-run blast to Evansville to give the Purple Aces the lead.
C. Krodinger came into pitch in relief, allowing three hits and one earned run in an inning and a third.
The first inning run for the Panthers came on a fielder's choice RBI by Ashley Chesser. Jaclyn Spencer drove in a run in the third, on a Jaclyn Spencer single through the right side.
The UNI offense was able to make contact in the game, amassing nine hits (two more than Evansville), but struggled to bring runners home. UNI finished with 11 runners left on base, compared to Evansville's five.
Jenny Kohl and Brittney Roby, with two hits each, were the only UNI batters who finished with a multi-hit game.
