Panthers Drop One to Grand Canyon

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Panther men's basketball team were back in action in the McLeod Center on Wednesday night, taking on the Antelopes of Grand Canyon University. The Panthers trailed early in the game and eventually fell to the visiting Lopes 73-62.
The Panthers managed to keep the Lopes below thirty points in the first half, heading into halftime down 29-21. The Panthers shot 34.8 percent from the field going 8-23 and 5-10 from beyond the arc.
Both teams entered the second half with an increased intensity, with the Panthers almost doubling their first half point total in the second half. Freshman AJ Green went 6-11 from the field in the second half while shooting 4-5 from beyond the arc.
While AJ Green poured on 27 points in the Panther loss, senior Wyatt Lohaus made shots in big moments to keep the Panthers within striking distance of the Lopes. The senior guard finished with 13 second half points and ended the night with 15 points and 3 assists.
Sophomore Tywhon Pickford led the Panthers in rebounding, hauling in 7 total boards while Trae Berhow finished the night with five rebounds.

The Panthers, now 4-7, are back in the McLeod Center on Saturday when they host the Fighting Hawks of the University of North Dakota. The Fighting Hawks are currently 6-6 on the season and are coming off a 92-66 loss to #20 Marquette on the road. The Fighting Hawks are led in scoring by senior guard Cortez Seales who averages 12.2 points per game. Saturday's contest is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with tickets available to purchase here.
