CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – UNI wrestling will open its 2019 dual season on the road in the same place the Panthers plan to finish the season.
UNI opens with Pittsburgh Saturday and wraps up the weekend with West Virginia on Sunday.
Pitt returns six starters and lost four. Taleb Rahmani is the only NCAA qualifier returning from last year's set of four. He's ranked as high as No. 10 in some national polls.

Micky Phllippi (133 pounds), Jake Wentzel (165 pounds), Nino Bonaccorsi (184 pounds) and Demetrius Thomas (197 pounds) have all earned national rankings in the top 20 as well this year.

Second-year head coach Keith Gavin and UP took down CSU Bakersfield 32-4 in its first dual of the season. UP has 13 newcomers on the roster. The team finished in a tie for 31st place at last year's national championships.

UNI's series with Pittsburgh is tied at 1-1. The last meeting was in UNI's favor, 25-12, in 2000.

First-year head coach Tim Flynn and West Virginia opened the season at home Nov. 1 with a 22-14 win over Northern Colorado.

There are 25 newcomers on the roster.West Virginia returns 10 starters and lost five.

The Mountaineers took three to the NCAA tournament last year: Zeke Moisey, Jacob Smith and Matthew Schmitt. Moisey transferred to Nebraska and Smith graduated. West Virginia finished 30th at last year's NCAA Championships.

Matthew Schmitt is the only Mountaineer to earn a national ranking. At 133 pounds, he was No. 20 this week in FloWrestling's and Intermat's poll. He was ranked 11th by Trackwrestling.

UNI has never lost to Big 12 foe West Virginia and leads the series, 3-0. The last dual was in 1991. UNI won 23-16.
